ConnectWise's New Patent Might Thwart Cyber Cheats

It's more important than ever to maintain secure internet connections, especially whilst many of us work from home. A recently published patent, US11792208B2, claims to solve a dangerous problem we often face – fraudulent connections that can misuse our devices and expose our private information.

Many people struggling with this issue may well have come across devices that aren't working properly or have fallen prey to 'malware', a type of software designed to harm our gadgets. In fact, it can be incredibly taxing to manage and monitor our numerous devices for suspected fraud, from our laptops and tablets to our smartphones.

Not to mention, the consequences are far from small. If a rogue connection isn't spotted, it could not only take up useful online resources, but also slow things down for the rest of us. Bugs or errors could sneak in, potentially damaging our devices. Imagine being forced to deal with these problems whilst in the midst of an important project or meeting. Things could truly become chaotic.

But this new patent, from the tech company ConnectWise, promises a sigh of relief. It's essentially a system that spots cheaters when you're trying to link your computer to the internet. It double-checks the account details of the other devices connecting to the same network. It then scores the connecting devices. If the score is too high, it flags them as potentially suspect and cuts off the fraudulent connection.

Suddenly, where there were barriers and roadblocks, there's a smoothly running system. Communication would be seamless and our online resources could flow freely. More importantly, we'd be able to trust our internet connections again. Imagine a world where you could connect your smartphone, iPad, smart speaker, and laptop to a network without worrying about hidden dangers.

It's important, however, to remember that this is a patent. Although it's a promising solution to a significant issue, there’s no guarantee that it will be available soon. It's always best to stay informed and maintain a healthy suspicion of unfamiliar devices or connections. Protecting our data and devices is paramount in the current digital environment.

P.S: Patents are granted for an invention idea and serve as a proof of ownership. However, the journey from patent to actual product on the shelves is often long and complicated, there's no guarantee when or even if this particular invention will make it onto the market. Nevertheless, the idea behind the patent signals an interesting approach to a serious issue, promising to make digital connectivity safer for everyone. But again, there's no guarantee when, or indeed if, this will happen.
